This indoor azalea, selected by Aquarelle, originates from China.
It likes rich, acidic soil, moderate light in summer and intense light in winter, and particularly careful watering. This plant produces numerous very thin roots that dry out the soil very quickly, especially when the plant is flowering.
To get the most out of this plant's flowering, here is some advice
- Watering: Water generously until water runs out of the drainage holes. Do not forget to remove the water from the saucer to prevent the roots from suffocating and then rotting. Even after thorough watering, the soil may be completely dry again after four or five days. You should therefore check the condition of the soil at least twice a week.
- Temperature: Although the indoor azalea is too sensitive to the cold outside, it should not be placed near a heat source. Place it in the coolest and lightest spot in the room, near a window, but if possible without direct sunlight.
- Outdoors: This plant should only be placed outdoors in May, in partial shade and protected from the wind. Fertilise twice a month and make sure it does not dry out.
- Before the frost, place the plant in a cool spot indoors (6 to 12 °C) and water moderately until the flower buds become visible.
